The Georgia Southern Eagles usually have all the answers at home, but last week South Alabama proved too difficult a challenge. South Alabama beat Georgia Southern 38-31. The win came thanks to a strong surge after the first quarter to break a 21-7 deficit. RB La’Damian Webb went supernova for South Alabama when he rushed for four TDs and 247 yards with 35 carries.

The Bobcats had excitement early on after winning the opening points of the game last week, but it was the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks who ended up taking the real prize. It could have gone either way late during victory time for Texas State or Louisiana-Monroe, but it was Louisiana-Monroe who clinched the 31-30 win. Texas State was up 21-zero at the end of the first quarter but somehow failed to seal the deal. Despite the loss, they had strong performances from QB Layne Hatcher, who passed on 41 tries for two TDs and 237 yards, and RB Lincoln Pare, who rushed for a TD and 100 yards on 25 carries.

The Texas State defense was also present as they collected an interception and three fumbles. S DeJordan Mask picked up that interception and then rubbed salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown.

South Alabama is the favorite in this game by an expected 16.5 point lead. They are currently two against two against the spread in their recent games, a trend for bettors to be aware of.

The Jaguars’ win brought them to 7-2, while the Bobcats’ loss dragged them down to 3-6. A few defensive stats to keep an eye on: South Alabama enters the competition averaging just 85.1 rushing yards per game, good for the fifth-best in the nation. As for Texas State, they’re coming into the matchup and boasting the 22nd fewest passing touchdowns allowed in the nation with ten.
