5-Star LB Anthony Hill had a “great visit” at Texas Football vs. TCU

Texas football just had one of its biggest recruiting weekends of the year when it hosted the 4th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs on November 12 for a key Big 12 contest at home. Unfortunately, Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity presented to them over the weekend to earn a big win over TCU on home turf in front of dozens of key guest recruits.

Texas remained completely flat on offense and squandered a major defensive effort in a sluggish 17-10 loss to the Horned Frogs.

Despite losing to the Horned Frogs over the weekend, it looks like Texas is still on good terms with most of the defensive recruits who came to the Nov. 12 game. And one of the key recruits worth noting that had a lot of attention on him over the weekend was Denton Ryan’s five-star elite linebacker Anthony Hill.

Hill made his first trip to Austin to visit Texas for the TCU game since the summer.

Given that this visit came just five days after his release from the Texas A&M Aggies, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for Texas to make a big impression on Hill. And there was even some speculation that a successful weekend on the field could see Texas land a signing from Hill.

Despite losing to TCU, Texas football reportedly still has a “great visit” to 5-star LB Anthony Hill

Instead, Texas fans wondered what status Texas would come out of the weekend with some of the top priorities for the Class of 2023, including Hill.

The good news here is that despite the declining performance on the field, it still sounds like Texas are making a good impression on Hill and his camp on offense. According to a Nov. 14 report by Horns247’s Mike Roach (Paid Content), last weekend’s trip to Texas was a “great visit” for Hill and his family.

Hill reportedly spent a lot of time during audition with the elite five-star Texas quarterback and Arch Manning, a product of Isidore Newman. Based on what we can glean from this review, the reviews of Hill and his camp are better than I originally expected to be coming from the weekend.

It looks like you can thank the Texas defense for their great performance against a high-profile TCU offense to make a positive impression on Hill. The Texas defense played one of its best games of the season, holding a TCU offense that ranked in the FBS top 10 with just 17 points and under 290 yards.

Though the visit hasn’t been able to get Texas a commitment from Hill in recent days, it still sounds like the defense made a big impression on him. Texas did much of what probably took to move the needle with Hill.

But we may have to wait for at least a few more visits for Hill before he makes his final decision, which will likely come before next month’s signing day.

Texas currently has up to 21 commits in the Class of 2023 after flipping over highly touted four-star edge rusher Colton Vasek from the Oklahoma Sooners’ Austin Westlake last week. There are likely a few spots left for Texas to make commitments in the 2023 class, one of which would definitely be reserved for Hill.
