WBB Set for Tippoff on Wednesday morning

CHAPEL HILL, NC — The North Carolina women’s basketball team will take a familiar seat at an unfamiliar time on Wednesday, hosting South Carolina State at Carmichael Arena for an 11 a.m. tip. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

No. 13 UNC comes into play 2-0 while the SCSU Bulldogs are 0-3.

Tickets are available here or at the box office. Recommended parking for fans is the Rams Head Deck.

The game is the last home game for the Tar Heels until December 7th. Between Wednesday’s game and then, the team will be traveling for four straight games, traveling to Virginia (James Madison), Oregon (Oregon and both states of Michigan or Iowa State at the Phil Knight Invitational) and Indiana (for the ACC Big Ten Challenge).

Wednesday’s game is the team’s field trip game, with school kids from around the area joining the Tar Heels for a morning of basketball. Chances are they’ll find plenty to celebrate as Carolina has averaged 83 points per game in their first two games.

UNC averaged a 29.5 point win margin ahead of Jackson State and TCU, shooting 51.6 percent from the field. That superb shooting didn’t translate to the foul line, however, so the Tar Heels will be looking to improve on their 54.4 percent free throw shots.

UNC vs. the State of South Carolina
The Tar Heels and Bulldogs last met in 2020-21 in Carolina’s fourth game of a season that had a massive impact from Covid. On December 3, 2020, in a nearly empty Carmichael Arena, UNC beat SC State 98-28 with all five starters from Tar Heel in double digits. Yes KellyThe then newcomer led with 16 points in just 14 minutes on the pitch. She was 6-7 from the field and 3-4 from three-point range. Kennedy Todd Williams was also part of the starting lineup and finished her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
• Prior to the 2020 meeting, the teams had not met since the 2016-17 season.

Exploring the Bulldogs
South Carolina arrives in Chapel Hill 3-0 after season-opening losses at East Carolina, Queens University and the University of St. Thomas. After Wednesday’s game, the Bulldogs will play at Campbell on Saturday before their Nov. 22 home game.

Nicole Gwynn leads SCSU with 8.0 points per game. Lovely Sonnier is the team’s top rebounder at 8.7 per game.
Tim Eatman is in his first season as the team’s head coach.
