• Carolina was seven points down at halftime but beat the Cougars by 23 points (59-36) in the second half to win by 16 points.
• The Tar Heels shot 71.4% from the ground and 60.3% for the game in the second half. This was the highest field goal percentage in a game under head coaching Hubert Davis (previous peak was 56.4% at Georgia Tech last season).
• That was the second-highest percentage of field goals in any half of the Davis era. The only higher percentage was 74.2% in the first half against Florida State last season.
• Carolina is 208-2 all-time when it scores 100 points (2-0 below Davis).
• Carolina made 27 of 38 free throws. The 27 makes the season high a year ago (vs. Elon). The 38 attempts was one more than the high a year ago (37 vs. Baylor).
• Carolina has been passed for the second time in as many games this season. Charleston overtook the Tar Heels 37-32. UNC was 0-3 a year ago when there was an out rebound.
Armando Bacot scored 27 of his strong 28 points in the second half. It was the first time since then that a Tar Heel had scored 27 points in one half caleb love scored 27 second-half points against UCLA at Philadelphia in the 2022 NCAA East Regional.
• Bacot was a career record away with a record 29 sets last season against Virginia and Georgia Tech (back-to-back games).
• Bacot was 0 to 1 from the floor and 1 to 3 from the line in the first half; in the second he was 10 for 12 from the floor and 7 for 9 from the line.
• This was the 17th career game in which Bacot scored 20 or more points.
• Bacot had six rebounds. He remains eighth in UNC history with 1,016.
• Bacot drew 11 fouls.
• This was the seventh time Bacot had scored at least 10 field goals in a game.
• Love had 25 points, a career-best nine rebounds and a team-best six assists.
• Carolina is 16-0 in his career as Love scores 20 points.
Tasty black was a career-best 6 for 6 from the floor and finished with 15 points, one of his career highs. He’s been 4-4 from the floor three times in his career, including winning overtime in Louisville last season.
• This was the 13th time Black scored double digits as a tar heel. He also made two threes, the 10th time he has made multiple threes in a game.
• Student in the first year Tyler Nickle scored eight points in less than eight minutes (7:48), his first points as a tar heel.
• The Tar Heels blocked eight shots tonight and have 14 blocks in their first two games (Peter Nance led UNC by three against Charleston).
• Carolina is 190-31 as the all-time best team in the Associated Press poll.
• Carolina is 453-83 in 38 seasons at Smith Center, including 220-18 against non-ACC opponents.
• Carolina outscored the Cougars 24-10 in turnover points. In the second half, UNC forced 11 turnovers that resulted in 17 points (the Cougars scored two points fewer than UNC turnovers in the second half).
• The game featured nine lead changes and ten draws.
