Tennessee basketball is back in action six days after their 75-43 opening win over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles. This time, the Vols head to the middle of the state for an effective home game against a Power Five opponent at a neutral venue.
UT, ranked #11 in both polls, heads into the Nashville Predators arena to take on the Colorado Buffaloes. This is the third consecutive meeting between the schools in three years, with Rocky Top winning in Knoxville two years ago and Boulder, Colorado last year.
Colorado comes into this game after a shocking 83-74 loss to the Grambling State Tigers on Friday. They beat the UC Riverside Highlanders 82-66 to open the season last Monday. Here is all the information you need about the Tennessee basketball matchup.

Heading into this season, Colorado had to replace its top three scorers from last year’s team, which went 21-12 and was eliminated in the first round of the NIT. Year 12 head coach Tad Boyle added junior college transfer J’Vonne Hadley and Yale Bulldogs transfer Jalen Gabbidon to make up for it.
On the other hand, the Vols found a new elite scorer in Tyreke Key, joining the threat of Zakai Zeigler, Santiago Vescovi and Josiah-Jordan James. The return of Olivier Nkamhoua, the development of Uros Plavsic and Jonas Aidoo and the addition of Julian Phillips, who started with five starts, also improved her aftermath.
At the same time, they don’t seem to have lost their defensive skills, a Rick Barnes staple. All of this coupled with playing the in-state explains why the vols are such heavy favorites while the over/under isn’t set any higher in this one.
Defense is the primary problem for Colorado, and while the Vols struggle in the first half of their opener, the Vols are extremely dangerous offensively once they get going. That will be seen in this game, so the Over 139.5 is the best game and it is also the reason to pick it up Tennessee-16. The score looks something like this: Tennessee 91 Colorado 66.
After this game, Tennessee basketball returns home to take on the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. Colorado, meanwhile, travels to South Carolina to face the UMASS Minutemen in Thursday’s Myrtle Beach Invitational. You will have a game every day from Thursday to Saturday at this event.
