As an Entrepreneur, you have a few things: a vision, a solution to a problem and a relentless work ethic. That is what you bring to the table. The best part of being an Entrepreneur is that you can be anyone, from any background and make something happen. But as all Entrepreneurs know, you will have many roles: sales person, administrator, marketer, business developer etc. All are very important functions in your business. The minute you recruit one person to your business you will have another role, leader.
This role is the most important for you, the business owner. I will say it again, leadership is the most important role you will have as a business owner. If sales and marketing are the life blood of your business, then leadership is the spine. You can delegate every function of your business, except leadership. Even if you hire an excellent manager, you still have to lead that person, you still have to work as a team. The ability for your team to work together, grow and realize your vision rests squarely on your shoulders.
This is great news. Why? Because leadership can be learned. It can be trained, and it does not need any talent or pedigree to excel at it. And the best part: as long as you train on the right things, you will become better and better, because your leadership arena will be your business, and you will be in the arena everyday. As your ability to lead gets better so will your business. Your leadership training and experience started the day your business did. What you do as a team leader will build the foundation of how you will lead your business for years to come. Start this off right. Invest in your leadership. Train on the right things. You owe it to your business, your people and yourself.
